I took time today to observe birds and bees and a few other things. I sat on the porch for a while and took photos of some of the visiting birds. I also used Merlin to identify bird song. This is what Merlin picked up:

Lesser Goldfinch

Pine Siskin

Steller's Jay

White-breasted Nuthatch

Oak Titmouse

American Robin

Acorn Woodpecker

House Finch

California Towhee

American Goldfinch

Anna's Hummingbird

Chestnut-backed Chickadee

Spotted Towhee

Dark-eyed Junco

Yellow-rumped Warbler

Mourning Dove

Brown Creeper

Olive-sided Flycatcher

Western Wood-Pewee

Hutton's Vireo

Black-headed Grosbeak

While I didn't capture photos of all of them (or at least good photos), I managed to get some images I like.

Anna's Hummingbird

Wild Honey Bees

California Wild Rose

All the years that I've lived here, I never noticed them. My friend Hoy pointed them out. Unfortunately there is a lot of poison oak near them, which is why I never walked by them before.

Stellar's Jay

I watched this bird for quite a while. It was making a lot of diverse and interesting sounds, some of which I've not heard before. I think those vocalizations fooled Merlin into misidentifying a Red-winged Blackbird, which we don't in our area.

Hmmm?

This bird was just stepping into the bath. It might be a finch.

Wild Irises

I captured this image more than a week ago when the irises were still blooming in full force.
